Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse Maine
The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is a well known light house on the side of a cliff located on Mount Desert Island in Acadia National Park in Maine. It marks the entrance to Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay.
The Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse resides on the side of a picturesque cliff inside Acadia National Park in Maine and is located on the Southwest corner of Mount Desert Island. It marks the entrance to Bass Harbor and Blue Hill Bay.
It was constructed for $5000 in 1858 out of brick on a stone foundation with a keeper’s house attached to it where a Coast Guard member and family reside year round.
The Bass Harbor Lighthouse in Acadia National Park is featured on a quarters starting in 2012 for the “America the Beautiful Quarters Program”.

While the house isn’t available for tours, you can drive your car right up to the lighthouse and walk around both sides of it. On the right, you’ll see an entrance to the house along with the light house bell.
There is also a nice trail on the left of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse where you can walk down alongside the rocks down to the breaking waves for a great view of the side of the light house.
